The Moment Behind The Photo

FREE Workshop with Will Tinapple, ABC Open and hosted by Katherine Regional Arts.
Location: Katherine Regional Arts Office, RM J19, Upstairs at the Katherine Training Centre in Second Street.
The moment behind the photo is a project that invites you to share a photo from your collection and the story behind it using photo & audio or photo & text. In this fun workshop, participants will upload a photograph and tell the story of the image, which will then be shared with the world on the ABC Open web site.
In order to prepare for this workshop you will need to:
- check out the project at ABC online: http://open.abc.net.au/projects/moment-behind-the-photo-53jq3ls
- choose your photo! This can be taken from your own collection, or taken specifically for the workshop. It must be a photograph that you have permission to use.
- sign up for a flickr account
- digitise (i.e. scan) your photo if it’s not already digital (if you don’t have access to a scanner we can do this in the workshop, but if you can do it ahead of time it will save workshop time)
- join the ABC Open Camera Club.

Barthulha Webs Artist Camp
Barthulha Webs is a very successful project facilitated by Jayne Nankivell and Adrienne Kneebone to provide residents of the Katherine Region an opportunity to spend the weekend learning new art techniques and exchanging artistic ideas and skills. The project is aimed at women ( but not exclusive to ) living in remote areas and will offer workshops in lino printing,weaving,paper making and dyeing with natural dyes.
Five weavers, two print makers, two paper makers and a fabric dyer will be running a program of workshops over two evenings and two days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 1,2 & 3rd.

Film Workshop

We are glad to inform you that the Katherine Regional Arts is hosting a "Filmmaking workshop".
The program is designed as a part of a series of workshop as an introduction for people interested in improving their knowledge and understanding in Filmmaking techniques and production stages:
- Slide show & video presentation on Filmmaking production stages;
- Techniques workshop and short film production;
- Introduction to editing.
Participation is open to anyone interested in the workshop with own laptop and camera (Recommended).
No previous knowledge required. Booking fee is $160 for the entire weekend (nibbles & drinks provided)
The workshops will be held (according to participant availability) from:

'Tea Towels Tell Tales' International Women's Day
Katherine Regional Arts are celebrating 100 years of International Women’s Day by hosting a ‘Tea Towels Tell Tales’ Exhibition for International Women’s Day 2011 and is asking local women to decorate a tea towel for the exhibition. You can use bought tea towels to quilt or re design, however the finished product must be a standard tea towel size.

WORKSHOP - Helen Aland will be running a free workshop on the Saturday 26th February 2011 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm in the Territory Craft room to decorate the tea towel any way you like. Paint, draw, print, write a poem or recipe. Materials will be provided but you will need to bring your own tea towel. The tea towels will be displayed on International Women’s Day on the 8th March. Technical Music Workshops
Katherine Regional Arts will be hosting a weekend music workshop in January 2011 facilitated by local musician Bernie Flynn. Workshops will cover areas of how to use sound and recording equipment.
Songwriting and recording - Saturday 8th 10 am – 3pm.
The Recording Studio – using control panels, mixing desk, studio techniques etc. Sunday 9th January 10 am – 3pmBYO Song or write a song and record it. – BYO instruments if you have any. 2 acoustic guitars provided. 6 people maximum per workshop so don’t miss this opportunity

Sandra Thibodaux - Poetry Workshop
Sandra Thibodeaux is one of the NT’s most renowned poets, having recently launched her second collection of poetry, extinctions (PressPress). Her workshops are very practical – lots of exercises and examples.
Although aimed at beginner poets, more experienced poets will get plenty out of it too.

K-Town Colors
Katherine Regional Arts Inc, organised for the workshop K-Town Colors in Katherine on the 6th and 7th January and 6/7th April 2010. The second set of workshops engaged over 25 youth over the two days.
"The project was a lot of fun and the young people really enjoyed learning how to print their own individual shirts. Fourteen youth attended the workshops from a variety of backgrounds, including 6 young girls from Binjari Community, 2008 Katherine rep on the Chief Ministers Round Table Ethan Woods -Allum and a group of young local girls whose parents were working."
